New Law Requires
Clear Government Communication
On October 13, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Plain Writing Act of 2010 (Act), which is designed to promote "clear Government communication that the public can understand and use." By October 13, 2011, agencies must write all new or substantially revised documents in plain writing. By April 13, 2012, and annually thereafter, each agency must publish a report that describes its continuing compliance with the Act.
